PBTT is a very comprehensive teacher training program. As such, our students and graduates are prepared for nearly any situation that might arise in a Pilates studio. It takes about one year to complete a course. That said, often our students have full-time jobs or other time constraints, in which case they are welcome to take longer to finish their program. Many of our students are working as apprentice teachers while completing their hours.

Required: 600 hours of combined observation, student teaching and practice. Anatomy & Physiology 1 & 2 at a college level or equivalent before the practicum. We have a course that meets this requirement - see our registration page for information on The Lab | Anatomy or see our FAQ page for a way to do the anatomy requirement for free. You may begin your hours as soon as you register.

Comprehensive Course includes course audits for life.

After you register you’ll receive a welcome email explaining what the next steps are. Your manuals will be waiting for you when you arrive on the first day. Once a student with us, you are always a student with us. As such, audits of any module are included in your registration for life - any where, any time. We look forward to meeting you and going along this journey with you! Feel free to reach out to us at any time and be sure to enroll in our digital network right away! (details will be in that welcome email.)

Pre-requisites

Include a working knowledge of anatomy, a minimum of 75 personal Pilates practice hours, an understanding of Joseph Pilates and a passion to learn the full Pilates program.

Reading list

Return to Life by Joseph Pilates is required reading. Titles written by Blandine Calais-Germain, especially Anatomy of Movement are helpful supplements to your anatomy journey. The Anatomy Trail Guide is a valuable anatomy text and can assist a beginner teacher in recognizing and recruiting particular muscles and muscle groups.

Anatomy

If students have not completed Anatomy and Physiology I & II at a college level or the equivalent, completion of this education is required.  We have our own Anatomy course that will fulfill this requirement.

Practicum

Each student takes a series of what we call “level assessments” as part of a cumulative Practical Exam. The components include video submissions, in-person teaching, written case studies and a quiz.

PMA CPT

Our program more than qualifies our graduates to take the Pilates Method Alliance exam should they choose to.

“Learning how to understand and recognize postural alignment in a body really helped me understand Pilates as a uniform system, as well as how to organize a flow and have intentional cueing. RPC taught me that!”

— Happy Student Whitney S., obtaining her 2nd certification with PBTT
